7 How to be Successful Lessons and Books for 2018

Lesson 1: Mindset is important

How you live your life is shown by how you think. Think about this…

When we hear of ‘rags to riches’ stories, we often see people who see challenges as opportunities. Their mindsets are wired into the positive side, that is why they are determined to do what they do.

In life, mindset is also important.

Every person encounters unique situations. However, the situation isn’t is as relevant as how we put our response to it.

Our mindset shapes our lives. If we adapt a positive and determined mindset, we are taking the road to success. If we keep our mindset towards the losing end, that’s what exactly happens.

So ihow to be successfuln this book by John Maxwell, How Successful People Think, he discusses the mindsets that make successful people the way they are.

Something to remember: Our thoughts truly shape our reality. How do you want your reality to be?

Lesson 2: Have a Direction

Why do some people who have good intentions sometimes fail in what they do?

The answer is simple.

They aren’t sure of what they want. You can have all the determination and enthusiasm in the world, but if you don’t have a direction, you are thrusting towards the middle of nowhere.

It is important to be clear on where you are going, so you know what small steps you should take.

Napoleon Hill discusses direction as one of the essential pillars of “growing rich” at his book, “Think and Grow Rich”. The book talks about how to become successful not just in monetary aspect, but in other aspects of your life as well.

Lesson 3: No Man is an Island

I am a homebody, and I always like time for myself.

But even in being an introvert, I understand that I need people to succeed.

After all, what is the purpose of succeeding if you have nobody to share your success with? That is why no man is an island. How do you define success?

It is not just about being financially rich, it is also about the quality of relationships that you have. Being able to gain friends in any chapter of you life is also something to enrich your well-being.

Lesson 4: Time is the Most Precious Commodity

Perhaps you will agree with me that commodities such as money and other resources can be lost, but eventually gained.

But maybe you haven’t really put deep thought into this…

Time is the most precious resource of all. You see, the things about time is once you spend it…

You can never have it back. It’s something that can’t be earned. It can only be spent.

So the only worthwhile thing to do is to spend time doing things that matter.

How would you like to spend lesser time in the rat race, and more time pursuing your passions? In the book by Tim Ferris, “The 4-Hour Workweek”, he talks about opportunities on how to leverage your skills to create passive income.

When you invest your time in creating income that multiplies over and over again, you free yourself from the shackles of trading your time for money. You give yourself a way to spend more time for the people and things you love.

Lesson 5: Act On It

What is the difference between people who succeed, and the people who don’t, given that they have the same set of knowledge and skills?

It’s simple. The other person acts on what he knows and what he can do, and the other person doesn’t.

In order to succeed, you must be willing to take some risks. You have to be brave enough to take the first step towards the journey through a destination you are dreaming of.

Although thinking about your plans count, nothing will happen unless you act on it.

Lesson 6: Develop Good Habits

One factor with how successful people make things happen is through the use of good habits.

What is the very important difference between good habits and sheer will? Let me tell you…

Sheer will have its highs and lows. When you operate through sheer will, you set yourself up for instances where you don’t feel like doing something, and you cave in.

Good habits on the other hand, make you show up every time even when you feel like it or not.

When you train yourself to have good habits, it will give you a routine that will allow you to do things even if your “sheer will” isn’t there.

Lesson 7: It’s Not Just Knowledge and Skills, It’s Also About Attitude

When we hear stories of inspirational people, we don’t usually hear them having ideal situations.

We hear them in dire situations, and making the most of it through their attitude in life. It seems like they may appear like they don’t know how to be successful, but they just push through it.

Even if you have the knowledge and skills to succeed, if you don’t have the right attitude to keep on going, you won’t make it. Being able to say to yourself, “I can do it”, despite the unfavorable circumstances takes a strong attitude to adapt.
