When someone is physically sick, you don’t say “stop coughing”, or “stop creating drama”. This is because the condition can’t be helped. Acknowledging and understanding that your loved one is depressed may be the first step in opening them up to get help.
Saying that they don’t have depression or they’re just plain sad may make the situation worse and invalidate what’s going on in their minds. This may even be a trigger for self-harming tendencies.
extend your patience

Thus, I will be sharing my insight on the importance of prayer in your spouse’s healing. I am in no way enforcing my religious beliefs, but this is something based on my experience. At some point when my husband and I were staying in Alaska, I had a bout of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It was what the acronym suggests–I was SAD! The lack of sunny days would sometimes bring me intense feelings of sadness that I couldn’t understand. I would cry about random things, and there were instances where I questioned my self-worth. A lot of people told me that it was indeed because of the weather.
To get rid of the condition, I started by praying to God and praying with my husband. I kept myself busy and started doing freelance work during the winter to help me stay motivated and get rid of my depression.
