I have been married for a little over two years. My husband and I have a relatively young married life, but that encourages me, even more, to remind myself of the times we were couples and our romance felt new. Although I can say my husband’s presence is what makes me happy the most (even if we’re not doing anything), here are some things we do to keep our marriage fresh.
How to keep marriage fresh: Things To Do
Plan to do something weekly
I’m a person who likes to always do new things. Although I’m very rigid with weekday schedules, I like to unwind and go to new places over the weekend (I think my son got it from me! Haha!).
Going out and doing something new weekly helps us to have memories to look back to. We always love to laugh about memories from the past, and these little weekly “highlights” give our marriage new memories to build from. If you’re thinking about ways on how to keep
Try that new restaurant on the block that you’ve been eyeing for months. Go to parks and have a fun picnic together (even if you’re not a picnic-y person). Watch that movie you said you’d never watch, just for the fun of it. Doing something fun at least once or twice a week will inject liveliness in your marriage.
Be spontaneous occasionally
In marriage, there are things that need to be planned, but there are also times where you have to be spontaneous!
My husband and I always have spontaneous moments of intimacy. Sometimes, he would give me a random kiss, and I would kiss him back. I hug him from behind or cuddle with him even when he’s busy, and he appreciates that. Don’t just be romantic with your spouse on routines–it helps to have a little gesture when they least expect it.
Leave love notes unexpectedly. Send sweet messages over the phone. Kiss, be

Fill each other’s intimacy tank
Another important thing on how to keep
Understanding your partner’s love language is essential in filling their intimacy tank. By doing this, you are making your partner feel loved, which helps you experience new heights in your marriage.
My husband is a very “malambing” person. That’s a Filipino word–in English, he is very sweet and likes to show affection a lot. This is his love language so I try my best to be sweet to him especially in our private moments. By doing this, I know I am keeping our marriage alive.
I am mostly someone who needs all of the love languages! Haha! I enjoy spending time, having words of affection, and acts of service the most. I love my husband for affirming me with encouraging words and for doing the dishes when I take care of the baby. Having care and consideration for each other helps to keep your marriage fresh.
Pray together
Lastly, always remind yourself that your marriage is built on God’s grace. The Bible says:
“For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.” Romans 11:36 (NIV)
This means that every aspect of our lives are for His glory, and works through His grace. Your marriage is working because of God’s grace. You are alive because of God’s grace! So, our response is praying to keep our marriage fresh and strong.
If you’re wondering how to keep
My husband and I started a habit of praying together before we go to sleep. This helps us to be close to each other and to reflect on our day while looking forward tomorrow.
