skin care tips for busy moms

If you’re a mom, chances are you have limited time for self-care. It is difficult to even do basic tasks such as showering or combing your hair when you have multiple little ones to take care of, so you want to be as minimal yet effective as possible in your skin care. Perhaps this is the reason why you are looking for skin care tips for busy moms.

My Personal Experience: Skin Care for Busy Mom

During pregnancy, I had very terrible breakouts in my face and back. Before that, I had relatively smooth skin so I know it is mostly attributed to hormone changes. I did my best–the skin on my face was smooth but I still had back acne. Ugh!

After pregnancy and during the pregnancy period, I guess the hormones were helpful to prevent most types of acne. For some reason, all my back acne disappeared and the scars started to heal again.

When I stopped breastfeeding and started my period months after pregnancy, the acne started appearing again but not as bad during pregnancy. My lips also turned dry this summer. However, I kept my previous skincare routine which kept my face mostly clear. I still have occasional skin problems, but below, I will be sharing a realistic, skin care routine for busy moms that I do daily.

Skin Care Tips for Busy Moms: What to Do

Use a gentle facial wash

The first thing I did that cleared up my skin and removed extra dead skin cells is using a facial wash with micro-beads. The current products I am switching between are Aveeno Facial wash and Neutrogena Facial Wash. A variation of Aveeno is what I am currently using, and you can use Neutrogena if you are pregnant as it does not contain Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid products are not recommended during pregnancy.

So this is the first step of my routine. I wash with either of these facial washes after a shower. My skin gets dry easily, so I only do this once a day. One of the helpful skin care tips for busy moms that I discovered is placing a lather of this facial wash before the day starts to keep your face oil-free. On busy days, just putting a lather on my skin keeps it clean and less acne-prone most of the day.

Toner after cleansing

The second step is using a toner. To be honest, I skip this step sometimes on busy days. I guess you should do this if you had a day where you worked out, sweat a lot, or went outside with your face exposed. As I am writing a post about skin care for a busy mom like yourself, I am being realistic here!

Otherwise, you can proceed with this step. My go-to product is the Neutrogena Alcohol-Free toner.

Moisturize everything

The next step that I believe is important is moisturizing everything. Lately, I have been noticing that my lips are turning dry due to the heat. Thankfully, I was introduced to a product called Al’iver Lip Sleeping Mask.

I love this product because it keeps your lips soft and supple without feeling greasy. The mask has two parts–one is for moisturizing and the other is for exfoliating. It is difficult to apply lipstick if your lips are always dry, so this product really comes in handy to me.

You can check out Al’iver Lip Sleeping Mask on Amazon if you want to have supple lips and avoid that “crusty mama” look!

For the skin, I try to use very pure moisturizers and sunblocks. I shift moisturizers often, but the less ingredients, the better. I recommend Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer.

Spot treatment

There will be days where you’ll really have breakouts, and that is acceptable! Thus, another part of the skin care routine for busy moms is spot treatment. I currently use Clean and Clear Acne Spot Treatment to dry up those pimples that come just before a period starts.

So, in summary, here is the basic routine which can be stripped down when necessary:

  1. Facial wash, lather on busy days
  2. Toner, skip when super busy but try to maintain most of the time
  3. Moisturize
  4. Spot treatment when there are acne

Extra tips

  • I know it’s easier said than done, but try to get as much sleep as you can! Sleep deprivation causes the rise of stress hormones which trigger oil production and pimples.
  • Drink a lot of water. Water helps in hydrating your skin, keeping it healthy and smooth. Enough said. I am also preaching to myself.
  • Don’t pick on pimples no matter what as it causes scarring.
  • Don’t let shampoo and conditioner go through your face and back if you have acne-prone skin.

That’s it! I hope these tips help. Also, don’t forget to check out Al’iver Skin on Amazon as well.

  1. This is a great basic skin care routine. I have acne prone skin since I can remember so I have to be very thorough with my skin care routine. I will definitely look into the spot treatment.

  2. Oh, you nailed it at the end! Sleep and water! And avoid the soaps, incl hair product run-off! So sorry you had back acne in pregnancy – ugh! That was the bane of my existence in high school!

  3. I am a very busy mum and have a little time for self-care. However, I really do like my sleep and I drink a lot of water. I guess that helps a lot with skincare too.

  4. This is timely. With everything that’s happening and the kids are at home 24/7 due to quarantine, I don’t really have much time for my skin care routine as I am just so tired at the end of the day. I would really love to try this sleeping mask. Thank you for sharing your review.

  5. Greetings! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering
which blog platform are you using for this website? I’m getting tired of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers
and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform.
I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
