How to manage time effectively: My personal experience
I have always heard some influencers and public figures talk about how we all have the same 24 hours in a day, but some people seem to accomplish more than others. I do feel like in many ways, this statement holds true, but not in the sense that I want to be a person who always seems to do more tasks than others. For me, learning how to manage time at home or how to manage time at work is all about taking steps on what works and doesn’t work for your particular lifestyle.
Since I am a mom, I cannot dedicate my time solely just to work, myself, or my hobbies — my 24 hours have to be divided into the things I’m responsible for. And I think that goes with each and every one of us. Whatever your roles or responsibilities are, they must be divided according to the right priorities and timelines.
Below, I’ll be sharing some of the things that have worked for me, which I believe are general principles on how to manage time better.

How to manage time better: Effective strategies
Using a planner or creating a to-do list
If you’re really struggling with remembering tasks or planning your day and haven’t considered sticking to a physical tool to help you out, maybe it’s time to get a planner or a simple to-do checklist pad.
I noticed that when I list down my tasks, it helps me keep track of and manage time during the day.
What I do is I divide my tasks to these four categories: “Home”, “Family/Others”, “Work/Business”, and “Self”. These four columns help me to sort the tasks and work on them at flexible times of the day. For my work and business, I don’t list all the tasks related to them, because I have my own to-dos in the platform where I’m at. I just put the name of the company/business in my personal to-do, and tackle them in the platform.
I feel so satisfied when I get to accomplishing each task in these four areas and knowing that those are the things I did for every area of my life.
Productivity timer on long tasks
Since I am a content writer, I do projects in large chunks of time (3-4 hour blocks). What has really helped me is to set productivity timers with short breaks (Pomodoro clock) to help improve my focus on certain tasks.
This physical prompt helps me commit on the task and not lose focus, so I can get to working instead of being distracted with other things.
First things first
One thing that really helped me on how to manage time effectively is to do tasks that require a lot of mental work on times of the day where I can’t be distracted. For example, household chores can be midday even when kids are awake.
Some writing tasks that are left unfinished can be done in the evenings/late at night when no one is there to distract me. Teaching lessons to my toddler in his homeschool can be done when my baby is asleep for a nap. Figuring out what you can do at a certain point in your day and making the most really helps in productivity.
Pour onto yourself
Lastly, no matter how you desire to be productive, you must always learn how to pour to yourself. Taking time off to do what you want, to make you happy, is one of the ways you can stay motivated as you manage your time.
I hope these tips have helped you out!
